During the summer and early fall of 2000, my youngest son worked in Post-Production on a movie titled Papa's Angels. It was
being made with the upcoming Christmas season in mind and was shown during that time on CBS. Scott Bakula, who was one
of the Executive Producers of the movie, starred in it as Grins Jenkins, the father of a family that suffers personal loss when Grins'
wife becomes terminally ill and dies. I saw the movie, and it was a wonderful story of family love and bonds. When my son first
began working on the post-production end of the movie, he met Scott and told him what a pleasure it was to meet him because he
and his mom (me) had always watched Quantum Leap together and had never missed a show. My son went on to tell Scott that
his mom was one of Scott's biggest fans - He wasn't lying either. I am. - and asked if there was any way he could get a picture of
Scott for his mom. Apparently, Scott asked for "Mom's" name, and the two of them discussed what to say on the picture. My son,
great sense of humor that he has, quipped that Scott should just do "the movie star thing" and write what he normally wrote on
pictures for fans, but that he (my son) would really appreciate it if Scott said something that confirmed he had worked with him.
A few weeks later my son received a large envelope in the mail at his home. Inside the envelope was the picture shown below,
which eventually got into my hands. There is no describing the joy that I felt when I opened the envelope and saw the picture with
my name on it written in Scott's handwriting. If a secretary or public relations person actually did the writing and not Scott, I don't
want to know about it. I want to believe what I want to believe. (I have since been told by several Scott fans that this is, in fact, his
handwriting. Thank you to them for contacting me.) After seeing the picture, I couldn't talk for a good five minutes. I just kept
staring at the picture with my name on it. It was such a gift of love from my baby boy, and it was the first time that anyone I admired
and held in high esteem had actually autographed anything and written my very own name on it. My son told me with a teasing
grin that I was acting as if Scott was standing next to me. (Hey! Holding something that Scott had held in his very own hands was
good enough for me!!)
So, may I share with you my treasure which says:
My Treasure from Scott Bakula
